Aaron Says... This is a great idea and a good article, it needs a few tweaks tho. While you're changing options for "Show Title" and "Show Text", you really should select "View..." and select "Large Icons" to make it fit the Win 7 Taskbar aesthetic better. Also, if you like you can place the recycle bin in another folder, and create a second toolbar for the "Quick Launch" in question, since some users may still like this functionality.

I'm not exactly sure when it became cool to abandon the use of your operating system's desktop, but a growing number of people these days prefer the "clean" look. Recent releases of Microsoft Windows seem to encourage this. By default, Windows Vista and 7 strip the desktop of all icons but the Recycle Bin.

Try as you may, ignoring this lone icon is impossible. Sure, you can hide it in just a few seconds, but at the cost of losing quick access to deleted files. You could also drag the Recycle Bin icon to the taskbar, but then it will appear pinned under Windows Explorer -- requiring an extra click to open and offering half the functionality.

In this tip, we will show you one method of bringing a fully functional Recycle Bin to your Windows 7 Taskbar, so you can clear off your desktop once and for all with little to no compromise.

To get started, we'll have to bring out the Quick Launch bar. Rest assured, it will not replace the new Windows 7Superbar -- in fact you won't even know Quick Launch is there. Right click on the Windows 7 Taskbar, hover overToolbars and click New toolbar.

When prompted to provide a folder directory, enter the following string of text:%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

After doing so, a labeled Quick Launch bar should appear near the clock. Odds are it will have several icons onboard, but since we won't be using this bar for anything apart from hosting the Recycle Bin I would just delete all of the shortcuts.

Right click on the Taskbar and uncheck Lock the taskbar if it isn't already. Now, right click on your Quick Launch bar and uncheck Show text, as well as Show title. Finally, right click and hover on View to select the size that your Recycle Bin icon will be -- I chose large to match my Superbar icons.

With the Quick Launch bar configured, all you have to do is drag and drop the Recycle Bin onto it. Feel free to grab the dotted lines and drag the Quick Launch bar to your preferred location. I would recommend either pulling it all the way to the left near the Start menu, or all the way right near the clock.

When you are satisfied with the position of your Quick Launch bar, relock the Taskbar and hide the Recycle Bin on your desktop by right-clicking an empty space and selecting Personalize, then clicking Change desktop icons in the left column of the Personalization window and un-checking the appropriate box.

New Idea for Google

I'm an idea man. I always think about new inventions, concepts, all kinds of stuff. I've had this idea for a while, but not sure of the best way to suggest it to Google. Today, I decided to spell it all out for Google and see what they say. I will post the mock up tomorrow and publish it as much as I can. I'm very excited! I hope Google hears my idea and brings it to fruition.

I think this is a great idea. I've always thought the big fronts of these machines were a waste of space.

Now, what they need to do is steal an idea from Japan, and let you call a number and charge the drink to your cell phone account. Come on people, Japan loves us, why don't we love them?

My frustration over the past few days has been proceeding with one of my latest obsessions, building a new website. The website in question is for an invention of mine. It's a modification of the usual registry that comes with your checks. I don't write checks, so don't carry my checkbook but the registry was important to me to keep track of my spending. Hence was born the DebitTracker! (Name pending) I have two styles so far, each of which fit nicely into the wallet next to, or around, your debit card.

Now I said "new" website, because one does exist for this product. Trouble is, I hate this website. It was a struggling half-assed attempt at a web presence. See for yourself!

Anywho. I just watched a great tutorial video set which clued me in to the absolute power that CSS provides. Which should be enough inspiration to whip together a site in mere days! Um, er. Wrong. :(

But I'm getting it together. It will work! I just need to relax a little. I will let y'all know when I get it finished.

Micro Entertainment (*)

The term Micro-Entertainment came to me in the shower, as a description of what I do, playing on the internet for hours on end. I quick check my email for short texts of jokes or actually useful conversation, I check del.icio.us Popular links for the latest anything to keep me entertained for seconds at a time. I scour YouTube and Google Video for short clips to amuse me. Then, I realize, this is the ADHD of the entertainment industry.

I stumbled upon a show from Nintento at E3, began watching and immediately became anxious. The opening scene was cute, but not interesting enough. Guy in a conductor's suit with the Wii-mote in his hand, leading a faux orchestra. The next scene, two guys demoing a game on the Wii. They're playing a driving game, it looks like it would be fun to play, but I get bored again. My eyes look at the length of the video, ohmigod! A full hour of this mess! Panic! at the Disk-o. I grab the time slider and fast-forward through the queued portion availible, I see a commercial! Ahh, a commercial, my heart calms. Much more appropriate for my speed-sensitive anxiety, with the less interesting (non-important) "fat" trimmed away from the juicy meat of video game highlights, and players enthralled in the game jumping on their couch, driving with the WiiMote as the steering wheel and also using the controller in a fighting game with japanese swords. Phew. My heart and brain are calmed by being assaulted with flashing images and sounds.

I fast forward again, speed-watch the new Zelda game and it's unique interactivity with the WiiMote, and pause the video. I have my Gmail open, a Katamari Damacy video to watch, and I've been chatting constantly while the Nintendo video was playing. Is this multi-tasking taken too far?
